At The Root Natural Health Clinic, we view everyone individually and holistically, meaning that all systems on physical and mental-emotional levels are considered. Symptoms of disease are seen as signals of improper functioning. It is important to not only focus on the symptoms, but to work to determine and address the root cause of these signals. We believe that educating our patients on the WHY of their assessment, and the HOW of their plan is imperative. This allows you to feel connected, involved, and empowered – everyone deserves that kind of care.

Naturopathic Medicine encompasses a wide range of therapeutic tools including Clinical Nutrition, Botanical Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, and Emotional & Lifestyle Counselling. We always encourage using food as medicine and working to build a lifestyle that allows your healing to occur, and to be maintained.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the placement of thin needles into specific points on the body. The points are like little energy wells, when simulated they will help correct the flow of qi (energy) and blood along the meridians. It sometimes helps to imagine a kinked-up garden hose where the flow is off. Acupuncture is a technique that un-kinks that flow by correcting the channel in which the qi and blood ... Read More

Mary is a Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner (R.TCMP) and Registered Acupuncturist (R.Ac) certified by CTCMPAO, licenced in the province of Ontario. Her practice is inspired by life. She weaves together methods used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in a way that flows to serve her client best; Mary strongly believes in empowering them. She is an acupuncturist and herbalist, who provides cupping, moxibustion, and light Tui Na massage which are all skills of Traditional Chinese Medicine. As a Reiki Master and yoga teacher she calmly wakes you from your treatment with a guided meditation or breathwork.

Mary’s practice is geared towards clients of all ages, finding the root cause of illness and using different techniques to focus on restoring wellness and preventing illness. Her educational background began by studying Acupuncture in Vancouver, BC. She then travelled to Taiwan, Japan, and China for energy exchanges to continue her learning.

Traveling to Asia has deepened Mary’s understanding of the principles of TCM. Mary worked on a herb farm in Beitou, Taiwan, where she learned permaculture and was hands on with Chinese herbs. Mary then went to a remote town in Miyama, Japan, building houses and volunteering in an Acupuncture clinic. She observed their methods of practice and learned about their culture. In Shanghai, China, she taught Reiki to a Doctor of TCM in exchange to witness their practice and learn more about culture. Once she returned to Canada, she moved to Mississauga, Ontario to be closer to her family and complete her formal education in TCM.

Mary also has a Nursing background (RPN, Non-practicing class) but has completely transitioned to her practice in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Most of her life has been fine-tuning her skills and integrating them together seamlessly. She grew up on ski hills volunteering with her dad on the Canadian Ski Patrol and practicing first aid since the age of 13. She continues to teach public classes of CPR and First Aid for the Canadian Red Cross and is a member of Acupuncturists Without Borders. She has a strong belief in community, knowing the value of what a balanced person brings to their family, friends, and workplace. Bringing our best selves is what helps us evolve as people and as a society.

Angie Wells is a Registered Massage Therapist that graduated with honours from the Canadian Therapeutic College in 2009. Her interest in sport, body mechanics and natural healing lead to a career in Massage Therapy.

She provides a therapeutic massage with a blend of Swedish massage techniques, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, muscle energy techniques and stretching. Specialized treatment such as sport therapy, pregnancy massage, manual lymph drainage, Craniosacral, and K-Taping are also available.

Angie believes Massage Therapy is an integral part of health care and has effectively treated a wide range of conditions, including: tension headaches, neck/shoulder pain, sciatica, strains/sprains, overuse injuries and swelling due to injury/surgery.

What is Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD)? This is a gentle, rhythmic massage technique that has a profound effect on the lymphatic system. The detoxification and decongestion effects allow the body to heal and can induce deep relaxation and reduce pain.

Indications for MLD:

Fibromyalgia Lymphatic support for those at risk of lymphedema (lymph nodes removed) Injury recovery (strains/sprains) Sinus congestion Early treatment of whiplash Pre/post surgery Overall well-being

What is Craniocacral (CST)? CST uses light touch to engage the body, often not looking like the therapist is doing much of anything. The gentle touch, provides the body with feedback and gives it focused attention and space needed to access its own healing mechanisms, release its stored tensions/injuries/traumas, and find healthy internal dynamics/homeostasis. Relieving tension in the central nervous system promotes a feeling of well-being by eliminating pain and boosting health and immunity. CST acts as a gentle reset for the body. Allowing space to process, adjust, realign itself, ultimately re-patterning itself into a place of safety trust, relaxation, and healing.
